The refrigeration industry has its eyes set on the future as the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act of 2020 begins to phase out antiquated classes of refrigerants and ushers in new requirements which will shape the landscape for years to come. The aim of these new requirements is to lower the GWP (Global Warming Potential) of refrigeration, resulting in less greenhouse gas emission and a more environmentally friendly outlook for Allegheny Refrigeration and our counterparts.
A2L refrigerants are characterized by mild flammability, low toxicity, and low global warming potential. The A stands for Non-Toxic, the 2 stands for Flammable, and the L stands for Low Burning Velocity. A2L’s are already adopted extensively throughout Europe and Japan, and their implementation and adoption in the US has been accelerating quickly over the past few years. By the year 2036, all units currently using HCFC-22 refrigerants (the older, more damaging type) will be phased out of use within North America. The switch to A2L not only lowers the GWP of these units, but also improves the safety profile of refrigeration, lowers total cost of ownership, and provides broader product availability to end users.
The team here at Allegheny Refrigeration is excited to be part of this movement towards providing cleaner, more efficient options for our loyal customers. For more information on the shift to A2L please call us at (412)-321-6626 to speak to an expert!
